We drive efforts to protect marine life around Anambas' through the creation and expansion of marine protected areas, coral plantation and education
In 2011 the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Decree No. 35 Year 2011 declared that Bawah waters and the surrounding area are part of Marine Recreational Park Anambas Islands (MRPAI), one of the largest conservation areas in Indonesia with an area of 1.2 million hectares. The area has been shown by some studies to be complete coastal and marine ecosystem meaning there is much potential for growth.
One project BAF has initiated is to manage the marine biodiversity in the region with an objective being to rehabilitate the ecosystem at Bawah Island and its surroundings. The Foundation engages the local community, local government, and other marine conservation organizations as well as relevant stakeholders including Bawah Reserve.
A preliminary survey has already been done to better understand the surrounding coastal ecosystems and communities and based on this, the Foundation’s priorities are coral and sea turtle rehabilitation and Marine Park Area (MPA) conservation.
